In 1994, a college student from the University of Connecticut was baptized as the first male conversion in the newly planted Hartford Church of Christ. Only one year later, that young man went off on a church planting to Burlington, Vermont. For the past 11 years, John Fogerty has grown up into spiritual adulthood. John presently works as an accountant for a Vermont lumber company during the day. However, his full-time passion day and night is the mission of Jesus.

Recently John was asked to attend a Messenger's Meeting for the newly-formed International Mission's Society in Worcester. He had never heard of the IMS, but has always had international missions on his heart. John thinks that probably goes back to his pre-Christian days in the Navy, traveling to many places like Europe, the Middle East and Asia. "Even then, I saw the desperation in people," he said.

For the Messenger's Meeting, John traveled down with Pam Bixby, the other Vermont representative. Here is his account of the day:

"I'm very grateful to have been given such a privilege as to be a messenger for the IMS. It has not been without impact in my own life. I was blown away by the candid sharing of our European brothers and their hearts for us. Up to this point, I've had little contact with brothers and sisters from around the world and I had a very different picture of what I thought the reality was like in Europe. I was deeply touched by the news and stories of the European churches going through 'the pains of childbirth.' But I was also inspired by their faith in Christ and their determination to persevere through their hardships. I was encouraged by the longingness to be unified with their brothers and sisters from the U.S."

John was not only touched by the day. He wanted to touch others. The following Sunday, Pam and John gave a report to the Burlington disciples. There was an excitement in the room as other Christians heard the news. Beyond the report, John went much further.

He shared, "I felt God was calling me higher in this arena and after much prayer and advice, I've decided to spend a week in Norway planting the Bergen church in June. I'm very excited about this trip and look forward to encouraging my Scandinavian brothers and sisters as well as being encouraged by them. I also look forward to sharing the gospel with anyone that will hear it in Bergen (and Bergen is a place that the gospel needs to be preached). My hope, God willing, is to travel to Europe at least once a year to serve and help to spread the gospel in some spiritually dark places. I hope to also inspire others to go as well. It's expensive, but just like those Visa commercials - IT'S PRICELESS!"
